Frequently Asked Questions:

Will Charro Drive stay in a right in, right out configuarion?

Charro Drive is currently in its final configuration.  The City of Colorado Springs designed this project to improve the east-west mobility in the southeast part of the city.  This project coupled with future projects ultimately allows free-flow access between Interstate I-25 and Powers Boulevard, and the COS Airport.  It also permits a rapid and relatively unimpeded movement of traffic.   From I-25 to Hancock Expressway the Academy Boulevard/Proby Parkway corridor will not have any traffic signals once the project is completed, but rather only grade separated interchanges.  Future planning at Proby Parkway/Hancock Expressway and Proby Parkway/Powers Boulevard recommends that those signalized intersections be upgraded to grade separated interchanges when the funding is available.  Recognizing the access concerns of the Barnstormers and Clearview Estates areas, a connection to Charro Drive is included as a right-in/right-out access to eastbound Proby Parkway.  A full movement intersection at this location would be unsafe due to higher speeds anticipated upon opening Proby Parkway.   Also, conflicts with the future grade separated interchange ramps from Hancock Expressway and Powers Boulevard are concerns.

When will the new Proby Parkway Project be open to traffic?

It is anticipated traffic will be shifted onto the new Milton E. Proby Parkway in the Fall of 2011.
