Milton E. Proby Parkway Groundbreaking Project: May 18, 2010
   On the five-year anniversary (May 18) of the passing of Milton E. Proby, ground was officially broken on this highly anticipated project, named in his honor. James Proby, the son of the late Reverend, spoke about his father, his legacy as a local civil rights leader,  and what a proud moment this was for the entire Proby family. The Master of Ceremonies, Tom Harold, chair of the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority Citizens Advisory Committee,  provided a brief history of the project.  Mayor Lionel Rivera discussed what a monumental day this was for the City of Colorado Springs.  Sallie Clark,  County Commissioner for District 3 and the Chair of the PPRTA Board,  spoke of the significant economic impact this project brings to the City with the creation of over 200 jobs for the area.  Bernie Herpin, City Council Member for District 4 was thrilled to announce the return of Drennan Road  back to the local neighborhood as the street will be made into a residential road rather than a thoroughfare to the airport.   Herpin also discussed the two miles of new trails that will tie into the region's existing trail system.  Dennis Hisey, County Commissioner for District 4, discussed that while construction will slow movement in the area temporarily, the end result will benefit the county, the city and everyone using the Colorado Springs Airport.  Harold wrapped up the ceremony by thanking everyone for coming and grabbed a shovel to lead the groundbreaking ceremony.
